Two fish games in a row – what are the odds? Last week it was Fish Frenzy from Crash of Games; this week it’s Splash Attack from Gigamic. Splash Attack, is definitely a kid’s game whereas Fish Frenzy is a great family set collecting game for your kids who have already hit the double digits.
Splash Attack is all-play speed visual game. Place the 10 fish in the center of the table and give a player the dice. They roll and everyone looks for the fish that matches the color on the one die and the pattern on the other. The first to find it grabs it. Do you or someone else already have it? Well then yell “Splash Attack” and grab for the red piranha (he’s the mean looking one with the teeth). If you had the fish and you grabbed the piranha, then flip the fish over. This means you “ate” it and you need to eat 3 to win. If you grabbed the piranha and someone else has they fish, they must return it to the center of the table with the other fish.
Splash Attack is a quick, easy, speed game that kept everyone engaged and played in less than 10 minutes. The pieces are nice thick wooden pieces so they’re going to hold up to being grabbed by multiple players over and over. The only negative was that the orange and purple fish are sometimes hard to distinguish between when you’re in a low light situation. We played this outside after it was getting dark and found it to be somewhat of an issue – or an additional fun challenge, I guess it depends on how you look at it! In previous version of the game the fish were orange, green, and blue — whereas now the blue is purple. Wonder if this was on purpose – hmmm..
